Let’s stop AIDS
Channel: World AIDS Day
This engaging video covers the status of AIDS in 2006, the promises that have been made and the gaps in action, specifically highlighting the goal of universal access. It was produced by the World AIDS Campaign.
World AIDS Day was first declared by the World Health Organisation and the United Nations General Assembly in 1988. Since then, it has progressively become one of the most successful ‘international days’ for raising awareness on a global issue.
To battle HIV/AIDS means to take a lead. Leaders are distinguished by their innovation, vision and action. They set personal examples that inspire others. They follow through on commitments. Leadership occurs in schools and communities, within families, at places of work, and of course in government.
To mark 2007’s theme of this leadership, UNAID is asking the world to make a pledge - ‘Stop AIDS. Keep The Promise’.
For today World AIDS Day is no longer just about raising awareness on issues such as stigma and vulnerability. Instead, the day marks a global opportunity to call for all promises on HIV/AIDS to be kept.
