While Eddy is a big supporter of WOMAD festival in particular, he’s had a wide range of festival experiences over the years.
As well as playing Glastonbury and T in the Park, Eddy had the special privilege of performing at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations this year, ‘which was a festival in itself!’
‘It gave me an opportunity to play for someone I can truly hold out as an icon.’
Playing for the former President of South Africa held a special resonance for Eddy, and he describes Mandela as a ‘great man’.
Eddy’s performance was part of the huge birthday celebration which raised money for Mandela’s charity 46664.
Eddy Grant has been a politically aware and active figure throughout his career, and his hit ‘Gimme Hope Jo’anna’ was an anti-apartheid anthem in the 80s,
