Fashion capitals London and New York finished their swop ‘Wish You Were Here’ last week. Both style conscious cities exchanged their very own independent boutiques for a whole month in the form of pop-up shops, fashion shows and cultural events.

British bands and eco + vintage catwalks graced New York’s Lower East Side representing London’s edgy and unique fashion style, with brands such as Beyond The Valley, Twenty8Twelve, The Face, Blaqua and Van den Berg showing NYC what we British are all about. On the other side of the swop, Newburgh Quarter gained Big Apple brands such as Earnest Sewn, Hairy Mary’s Vintage and Design, In God We Trust and Kaight with block parties, street markets and a ‘guerilla’ street fashion show.

This exchange of two like-minded cultures and lifestyles brought an understanding and a lot of inspiration to each destination, just what we need when the current climate is putting a downer on the fashion world. Fashion should be about exploring new territories, about learning from other cultures rather than pretending that we know it all and above all, having fun. Let’s hope this continues in future years, personally I would love a London/Japan swop - how much fun would that be?!
