t5m asked all the winners, guests and performers at the Classical BRIT Awards about their choice of outfit for the big night. As you would expect the glamour level was high; Balenciaga, Marchesa, and Belville Sassoon were all in evidence as were some less well known designers. The Blake boys were wearing suits by Without Prejudice, and Hayley Westenra looked every bit the green Greek goddess in Xterity.

You can tell a lot about a person from their iPod playlist. An ‘iPod audit’ has become the modern equivalent of studying a person’s bookshelf, or even glimpsing at the contents of their bathroom cabinet when you need to make a quick survey of their disposition.

To test the musical health of modern classical performers we asked the winners, nominees, performers and some guests what they were currently listening to. The answers gave an indication of a classical music scene with a broad range of tastes, the expected and the not so expected (obscure jazz or electronic house music, anyone?), with an overall focus on enjoying great music.

As David Garrett (violin virtuoso and Green Day fan) says, (quoting Irvin Berlin, who was no slouch himself) ‘there is good music and bad music in any genre’. The lesson from the musicians on the night is, whatever kind of music you like, make sure you listen to the best.

Winner of the Critics Award, Steven Isserlis, talks to t5m about his worst experiences of performing. Anyone who has seen Spinal Tap will sympathise with his story of getting lost in the winding corridors of a concert venue.

He talks about his favourite piece of music, an aria from St. Mathew’s Passion by Bach which he says an incredibly moving piece of music that makes his wife cry just by thinking about it.

He reveals why he plays the cello. Apparently it was the only instrument missing in the musical household that he grew up in.

He also signed the Karl Hofner violin which you can win by entering the competition and answering a simple question.

It's great to see the camaraderie of the group which met on Facebook and haven't been singing together long as they joke about with each other.

The great work that the BRIT Trust and BRIT School do gets an important mention but the real excitement is meeting their hero, Andrew Lloyd Webber, as one of the boys started his career in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - and no, he won't sing some (although our interviewer, Emma, gives us a few bars)
