The opera star Katherine Jenkins was excited for the Brit’s and her own prospects as she talked on the red carpet. “The Brit’s is always so much fun” said the smiling Welsh star.

Jenkins has enjoyed huge success in recent years, releasing seven albums since her debut in 2004. Her most recent, Rejoice, reached number three in the UK charts for all music, an extremely rare occurrence for any classical album. She is also the official mascot of the Wales Rugby Team, as well as being given the unofficial title of ‘Forces Sweetheart’, following in Vera Lynn’s footsteps.

Katherine Jenkins was looking forward to a variety of acts. Amy Winehouse was top of the list, saying she’s “a big fan”, and “I’m excited that she’s performing!” Jenkins was also eager to see Mark Ronson, Rihanna and Mika, particularly praising Mark Ronson, saying “I loved his album, so I hope he does really really well tonight. Jenkins was very impressed with the artists that had congregated at the Brits, telling t5m “it’s a really exciting line up tonight!”

The Welsh mezzo-soprano says she draws her influences from “the Golden Era of Hollywood.” Jenkins names “people like Doris Day, Barbara Streisand, Marilyn Monroe” as those who have inspired her success.

Her appreciation of artists from outside her ordinary sphere of classical musicians and opera singers is shown in her dream collaborations for the year ahead. “I’d like to do something completely different” she said, referring to working outside of her opera singing. “Maybe someone like Mark Ronson or Kanye West that could sample a little bit of opera.”

Jenkins was beautifully dressed in a knee-length Valentino dress, saying “I usually wear more long dresses.” However, the distinctively glamorous Brit atmosphere led her to go for a more daring style.
