To many it’s simply a night of rock’n'roll excess. Or else a public display of swagger or mischief - who can forget Jarvis Cocker’s “duet” with Michael Jackson or Robbie’s challenge to Oasis Liam? But the Brits, the biggest event in the UK music industry’s year, is about much more than live bands, awards or larger-than-life popstars.

The Brits Trust was created almost two decades ago as the charitable wing of the record industry. In the time it’s been around it’s raised over £13m with the specific aim of providing young people with access to expressing themselves creatively in music.

Perhaps the most recognised sign of the trust’s work is the Brits School, the only free institution for the performing arts in Europe. This academy that nurtures creative musical talent has had some pretty impressive past students – the Kooks, Kate Nash, Amy Winehouse and Adele have all passed through its doors.

But the school isn’t the only establishment to benefit from the trust. It has sponsored music education in all genres and in many ways. And the awards ceremony is a major fundraiser for the Brits Trust. This year it hopes to be able to collect over £500,000 for its causes.

But if you want to see the antics of the night, they’re all here on t5m’s Brits channel - from red carpet chat to backstage interviews. Just click, watch and listen!
