Kate Nash talks about how vital it is for children to get involved in music and art early on “Arts in education is one of the most important things to me” says the singer.

Nash, along with Amy Winehouse, is one of the most high profile graduates of the Brit school where she had “a great time.” She is worried about the focus on university at the expense of qualifications more suited to the student. “I didn’t get into university and did a theatre BTEC National Diploma and I loved it.” She added “I think it’s one of the best educations I could have ever had.”

Kate Nash is passionate about the role that arts education can have in helping young people find a way to express themselves. “Putting music and art into people’s lives stops them from going into gangs and violence.” Nash also believes that art can play a role in developing inter-personal skills, “it teaches you about community and working together and connections with human beings. There’s so much it teaches you.”

Nash was well turned out in a vintage dress and sporting an Anti Nazi League badge as a high profile supporter of their Love Music Hate Racism campaign.

Kate Nash’s own career has skyrocketed, and she recently performed with the activist and musician Billy Bragg at the NME awards, which Nash describes as “really exciting.
