Oh to be a celebrity! Just think of the fame, wealth, adoration and Chanel freebies: well, if you’re Lily Allen that is. Style guru and fashion expert, Carli Humphries talks us through Chanel’s new poster girl…
The perennially controversial but ever-stylish Lily Allen has finally been confirmed as the new face of Chanel’s next handbag campaign, because, apparently Karl Lagerfeld thinks she’s “fun”. Lily is already a walking Chanel advert trading in her once-infamous prom dress and hi-top combo for the front row of the Paris shows. And, after much consideration here at t5m we think out of all campaigns she could do for Chanel, handbags suit her best: she seems to have a 2.55 in every colour and size. Lucky girl!
Featuring a celebrity in a campaign always gets us talking. Some are considered a hit, like Pamela Anderson for Vivienne Westwood and Katie Holmes for Miu Miu, as they reflect the celebrity’s personal style and attract the ‘right kind’ of customer to the brand. But by choosing Lily, Chanel have taken a risk, opting for someone as famed for their outspoken soundbites and personal life as they are their sartorial elegance and grace - but that is what makes this collaboration even more exciting and daring, like Lily herself, really.
Not that Lily isn’t worthy of such high end approval; she certainly has a je ne sais quoi typical of the Chanel style, wearing high fashion well without being a slave to it, and infusing elegance with personality for something just a little bit different.
Karl Lagerfeld thinks she’s fun and so do we, adding necessary vitality and a little bit of attitude to a classic label. We can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with.
