The great and the good of the music industry gathered in the old-world splendour of the Park Lane Hotel’s art-deco ballroom yesterday for an afternoon of well earned praise and speeches. Designed to celebrate the ‘unsung heroes’ of the music industry, the Gold Badge Awards recognise the men and women who have made outstanding contributors to Britain’s music and entertainment industry, and have over it’s 36 years paid tribute to an array of industry figures, including broadcasters, recording artists, publishers, arrangers, producers and record company executives.

This year the Gold Badges were awarded to a broad spectrum of talent - including singers and songwriters, a music copyist, a producer, a concert promoter and a violinist.

t5m’s very own Hugh Padgham (the man behind the ‘gated drum sound’ so well utilised by the likes of Phil Collins) was there to receive a Gold Badge, alongside the likes of Hank Marvin, Robert Wyatt and Ruby Turner.Over 300 industry professionals - including producers, lawyers, publicists and songwriters gathered to see their peers rewarded for their contributions to music, including Hugh who made a humble acceptance speech:

“I’m deeply honoured.  I would like to thank all the incredible songwriters I’ve worked with over the years, without whom I wouldn’t have had a career.”

He was also sent notes of congratulation and support from Phil Collins, Sting and Genesis which were published in the event’s programme.
