The Greatest Show on Earth describes the evidence for evolution by natural selection as well as discussing what he describes as the ‘educational disgrace’ that over 40% Americans dismiss evolution in favour of supernatural explanations for life on Earth.

Provocative stuff! But, wherever you stand on the issues there is a chance to listen to Mr. Dawkins himself - on the 16th September at The Logan Hall with James Harding of The Times and on the 24th November at the V&A,

After the talk, Richard took questions from the floor, and the topics of conversation quickly switched to morality and religion. The evening wrapped with a warm round of applause from the audience - Ben Powlowski, an aerospace engineering student commented:

‘He reaffirmed what I knew he was going to say and also what I believe’.

Richard will have a new book out in September ‘The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution’ which we hope will follow in the footsteps of previous titles ‘The God Delusion’ and ‘The Selfish Gene’.

When more discerning questions are posed he is equally as open and honest. ‘I am hostile to religion because it teaches people to be satisfied with non explanations, or poor explanations, or outdated explanations for things,’ explains Dawkins. This is one of the main motivations behind his work.

Striving to achieve understanding and answers through science is very important to this writer, academic and biologist. Here, he touches on all of the issues close to his heart; Darwinism, morality, theory of religion and feminism.

Since then, he has successfully ploughed forward to establish himself as a leading authority in genetics and is well known for his views on evolution and religion.

After all these years, Dawkins clearly has not tired of his work. ‘What The Selfish Gene did was to say that it was really the genes that we need to focus on. In a way all I was doing was changing the way we look at what was already familiar and focusing on the genes as the actors in the drama.’
