Forget Milan, Paris New York- London Fashion Week is the most creative and energetic of the year. The atmosphere was humming with excitement and anticipation as designers and models from all over the world descended on South Kensington for six riotous days and nights.
t5m were backstage at the pick of the shows, and out and about the whole week catching up with designers such as Christopher Kane and Diane von Furstenberg. The week was blessed with beautiful sunshine, champagne flowed and the fashionistas got stuck in to the 53 shows.
London Fashion Week is renowned for launching the careers of new and talented young designers, and this year was no exception. Gavin Douglas wowed with his sophomore collection crammed with gold, crystals and skin-tight short-short dresses.
More homegrown talent shone this year, with Christopher Kane showing a beautiful ‘edited, clean’ collection, inspired by 70s soap operas. We caught up with him backstage after his show, where the adrenaline was still racing! Check out his interview, as he tells us how he designs for the ‘dowdy, unsexy’ woman. ‘The duck’ he says, ‘rather than the swan’.
One swan who’ll be going undercover to get into Christopher’s designs is the stunning Finnish supermodel Suvi Koponer. She was raving to us backstage about Christopher’s latest collection. The thing she loves most about his work, is the way every collection looks so different, but has ‘a signature style’ that defines it as totally Christopher Kane.
Other British designers showing in the tents included Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Wiliamson and Luella Bartley.
