Standing alone
Channel: James Blunt
James Blunt talks to t5m about what goes through his head when he’s getting ready to perform a show.
James Blunt says the difference between the types of performance they have to give means “we have different levels of anticipation of what’s coming up.” Blunt offers television performances as an example of shows he doesn’t like to play. He feels “that frustration of not being able to get up and do it because they make you sit there and they want to fiddle with the cameras and stuff like that.”
However, Blunt says he feels comfortable at his concerts, and there’s “definitely not a sense of fear or fright because on the whole people are there to be on the same side as you,” adding “we’ve done it so often now that we’re really, really relaxed.” He says that this can make it difficult to keep concerts at the high standards he is used to. “If anything we have to try and psyche ourselves up a little bit to go up on stage and give a performance to try and take it to people and engage with them and be enthused by it.”
James Blunt has a particular mental tactic to give the best performance of the song he can. Blunt told t5m “we’ve done the songs so often you need something to trigger you to relive the moment when you wrote the song.”

I went to see James Blunt at the NIA Birmingham recently, with a friend.
I was blown away by the ability of this guy to engage an audience. It was truely amazing it was the first time I felt I connected with a performer. I have seen quite a few other artists. His show was amazing, the light show on Shine On was fantastic! James Blunt is a true professional singer with energy, committment, and a real feel for his audience an awesome experience. Better live than the album!
