Oliver Barker, the head of contemporary art at Sotheby’s, London praises the current state of the art market at Frieze. “Very buoyant…everyone was surprised by the variety of things on offer, the quality is always great and its always fun!” The comfortable atmosphere at Frieze art fair makes for a great event, everyone is clearly happy and everyone wants to be a part of things.

Shopping at the event is clearly a major aspect of the art show, and it is accessible to everyone. “There’s something for every pocket, you can start at a few hundred pounds, going up to the millions.”

Mr. Barker mentions Sotheby’s own collection, which includes Damien Hirst, Francis Bacon, and Andy Warhol.

Aside from the traditionally popular art, street art has burst onto the scene, and has grown tremendously in recent years. Mr. Barker acknowledges the achievement of Faile street art being accepted in the secondary market. “A real phenomenon, they’ve grown in London so quickly.” He also predicts great things for Faile in the street art market.

It’s a busy time in the art world - with events at the Shadow Lounge and Sotheby’s, Mr. Barker is looking forward to the upcoming events.
