In late 2007 my sister sent me the first three books on the Twilight Saga. I immediately fell in love with the story of Bella and Edward and couldn't put them down. My love of writing, long buried under the daily chores of raising four busy boys, was reawakened. Wanting to share my new obsession with others, I decided to write about it and Eyes of Amber was born.

UK vampire fans rejoice, the Vampire Diaries will finally premiere next month

Wait, isn’t Eyes of Amber supposed to be all about Twilight and all things Twilight related? Why yes, yes it is. But you see, I have found another vampire passion as well. This one also has literary roots, but it’s taken to the small screen rather than the big screen. And beginning next week, it’s coming to the UK!

Before you say that I’m cheating on Edward, I promise you, he still holds the same very special place in my heart that he always has. But you know what happens in the end, Edward gets the girl, and her name is not Amber. So let’s not act like he’s off somewhere pining because I have discovered there are other vampires out there. New Moon is trickling out of the theaters, the DVD release is still weeks away and we won’t be able to see Eclipse for months! There’s nothing wrong with getting a fix.

Allow me to introduce to you another family of vampires. In this case, it’s two brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. L.J. Smith originally published The Vampire Diaries series in 1991. The outcry of fans convinced her to release a fourth volume in 1992. I’ll be honest, if she’d ended it at book three, I wouldn’t be writing this right now. You know how New Moon makes you want to throw the book up against the wall? Yeah? That’s what book three did for me. The fifth book was released just last year and there are three more due this year with a ninth book due out summer of 2011.

Obviously these books have been around since before our beloved Edward appeared to Stephenie Meyer in her beautiful dream of the meadow. There have been countless comparisons made between the two. The stars of Vampire Diaries his addressed some of these, as have both L.J. Smith and Stephenie Meyer. Yes, both series revolve around a vampire falling in love with a human high school girl. But that is just about where the similarities end. Vampire Diaries even makes reference to Twilight in one of the early episodes.

While I’m not a wine drinker myself, I would imagine it’s fair to compare one to a red and one to a white. Do they both have similar origins? Yes. Do they have the same flavor? No. Is one always superior to the other? Definitely not. Do they both have something to offer to the connoisseur? Absolutely!

So when I’m not writing about Edward and the wonderful world that is Twilight and the Cullens, I do partake of the world of the Salvatore brothers. You can learn a lot about them by reading my Vampire Diaries Examiner articles. I promise you, Edward doesn’t mind. Vampire Diaries will begin airing in the UK on ITV2 beginning February 2. Be sure to tune in and let me know what you think!

Twilight stars and fans show support for the Hope for Haiti Telethon

I’m sure that my readers think I’ve disappeared or totally forgotten about my little home away form home over here at t5m, but I promise I have not. I have all kinds of ideas that I want to work with here and I can’t wait to share them with you. But for today, there’s something a bit more serious to take on.

As I’m sure you know by now, Haiti was hit by back to back devastating earthquakes on January 12. The utter desolation is beyond comprehension and these people are in such desperate need of our help. George Clooney and MTV have worked together to organize the “Hope for Haiti” telethon that will take place in the US tonight.

The telethon will air live and commercial free. The special celebrity appearances, live musical performances and news reports will be airing from New York, Los Angeles and Haiti. Twilight’s own Robert Pattinson will be hosting the London portion of the program which is being recorded this afternoon.

This country and its people need our help so badly. What a wonderful opportunity this is to show that the Twilight fandom is full of heart and concerned about our world. Thinking of Rob, The Fandom Gives Back and Ms.Kathy have been doing an incredible amount of work for this cause. The current total of donations from the fandom stands at nearly $40,000 US dollars.

The two-hour program will begin live tonight in the US at 8pm EST. In the UK it will air live on MTV at 1am GMT. It will be repeated at 9pm on Saturday on both VIVA and MTV. The songs will be available for download on iTunes tomorrow to extend the fundraising even after the telethon is finished.

Looking back on the year in Twilight...has it changed your life?

This is the time of year that we all begin to reminisce about the last 12 months. Christmas is upon us, which means a near year is just around the corner. This year we have the unique opportunity of looking back at the first decade of a new century. That’s absolutely amazing!

Like it says in my bio, my sister sent me the first three Twilight books as an early Christmas gift in 2007. She’d read them, was completely in love and wanted me to read them so that we could discuss them. I’ll admit that I wasn’t all that thrilled with the idea at first. Vampires had never been my thing. But I appreciated the gift and looked forward to reading them, just didn’t expect to like them. Fact is I didn’t, I feel irrevocably in love with them and never looked back. Two years later here I am!

It’s been just over a year since Twilight hit theaters November 21, 2008. When I read the first three books, we weren’t even sure that we were going to ever see it on the big screen. That was before Summit had even acquired the rights. My sister and I would send emails back and forth all day long with links for new Twilight articles. Twilight Lexicon very quickly became my first stop each time I logged on to the computer. Breaking Dawn came out the day of my baby shower and it nearly killed me not to open it until after.

After seeing the movie last November, I found that my family blog was quickly being overtaken by all things Twilight. I realized it was probably time to devote a blog just to Twilight and because my family blog was private, I was hungry to share my love and excitement with a larger audience. After spending some time finding the perfect name, Eyes of Amber was born. Up until August, it was a solo endeavor, but I decided that I needed some help. I was looking for a news poster, but I ended up finding a totally awesome blogging partner who quickly became a dear friend. We just celebrated the one year anniversary of the blog on December 13. That simply blows my mind!

Over the last two years I have met some of the most amazing people because of Twilight. These people have become my friends, my mentors and my support system. While Eyes of Amber is still a small blog, we’re growing, and thankful to everyone who is making that possible. There is so much to celebrate this Christmas, and a lot of it is because of Twilight.

We’ve seen New Moon in theaters now, Eclipse is already filmed and we’re waiting for news on Breaking Dawn any day! What a year it’s been!

So now I want to know, how has Twilight changed your life over the last year?

I hope you all have an absolutely wonderful Christmas. As a gift from Kerry and I, this week’s Twi-Theories Tuesday was all about meeting a Cullen under the mistletoe. Be sure to check it out!

As a side note, I can never pass up an opportunity to make a plug for Sam Bradley. He has recorded Silent Night and is offering it as a free download on his website. I listened to it on a continuous loop while I made out my Christmas cards this year! While you’re there, you can always pick up his EP as well. I highly recommend it.

Happy Christmas!

Pass the time until Eclipse hits theaters with a unique book discussion

It’s been almost a month since New Moon hit theaters and just over six months until Eclipse does the same. A few weeks ago Kerry, my wonderful blogging partner, noticed that the number of weeks and chapters in Eclipse matched up just right. So she came up with the idea to do an Eclipse book discussion, chapter by chapter. But we didn’t want this to be just your average book discussion. We decided to do it as a panel. So once a week, the panel gets together online to chat. We post what we come up with and hope that our readers will throw their thoughts into the mix as well.

Our panel consists of three Twilight fans with different views on the series. Kerry is our resident Team Edward girl. While she doesn’t hate Jacob, she’d never consider him as a real option. I consider myself Team Total Bella. I love Edward dearly and believe he’s the right choice for Bella. But, I also love Jacob. In a world without Edward, he is the absolute perfect choice for her. Just like Bella, I love them both, but I know who I couldn’t live without. To round out the group, we have brought in a guest blogger to represent the Team Jacob point of view. Sabrina is wolf girl through and through. It will be interesting to see just how these three points of view collide as we move through the book.

The first week we tackled the preface, including the Robert Frost poem referencing fire and ice. Here is an excerpt from that post…

Amber: and Edward is ice…but also, you have the fire linked to desire and the ice linked to hate. With Edward…Bella is all fire, all desire. With Jake…she feels them both
Sabrina: True. And the idea of destruction is pervasive in this poem. Although it might make you think about the love triangle, that’s not what the poem itself is actually about.
Amber: well obviously sweetie…I didn’t think Robert Frost wrote poems about Twilight
Kerry: Really??
Amber: okay, give me your take, Miss English Major
Kerry: ooh! An English Major!
Sabrina: this poem gives a foreshadowing of the problems that the Cullens as a clan face.
Amber: if you’re looking at it that way could the fire be the wolves and the ice the newborns/Victoria

We really do get into some serious literary discussion, just with our own little banter thrown in. This week we did chapter one and spent a lot of time talking about the note from Jacob.

Amber: the note kills me
Sabrina: I’m sorry Team Bella!
Amber: the crossed out lines and the eventual statement of the truth
Sabrina: Yeah, me too. He can’t even be mean to her in a note. He just can’t.
Amber: that they do miss each other, but it just doesn’t change anything
Kerry: the notes are very telling. I love that he just crosses out the thoughts, but not enough to actually obscure the previous thoughts
Sabrina: That is particularly odd. It’s like, he wants her to know what he’s thinking, but he also wants her to know that he doesn’t want to say it.
Amber: I think this was more a case of he wanted to get it over with… he just wanted to get an answer written out and send it back to her
Kerry: but why not simply use a different piece of paper, or tearing off the other parts?
Amber: like he said, the more he thinks about her, the more it hurts
Sabrina: I just think he didn’t have it in him to ignore such a desperate plea.

Of course there is still plenty more to talk about. Hop over to my main blog and join in the discussion. We’d love to hear your thoughts. Eclipse is my favorite book in the series and I am so eager to look at it from all different points of view!

While New Moon explodes at the box office, Breaking Dawn speculation rises

As the record-breaking box office numbers began to pour in for New Moon, there was a question heard across the fandom: What about Breaking Dawn? I’ll admit, I was one of those who predicted we’d get an announcement over opening weekend. I based that prediction on the fact that New Moon had been given the green light during opening weekend of Twilight last year. But as you know, no such announcement was made.

So the question remains and is rarely far from the forefront of Twilight news. While it’s often hard to know the rumors from the truth, there are some things out there we can take hope in. First of all, Rob mentioned during the press tour that he believed they were looking toward fall of 2010 for filming Breaking Dawn. There is a video circulating of producer Wyck Godfrey saying that the intention is definitely there to make Breaking Dawn, but as you can imagine, most of their current focus has been getting New Moon and Eclipse out.

Yesterday it was reported that Rob, Kristen and Taylor are negotiating their contracts for Breaking Dawn as a team. I think that’s certainly a smart move, as losing any of them at this point could be detrimental. While Rob cemented himself as Edward in our hearts during Twilight, Taylor absolutely embodied Jacob in New Moon. It’s undeniable that while Kristen was certainly Bella in Twilight, New Moon allowed us all to watch her grow into the character even more. These are now the faces of Twilight to us, and any casting changes at this point would not be acceptable to the fans.

Didn’t mean to break into a review of New Moon there, which I will certainly be posting soon, I’m just waiting until next week when I see it for the fifth time before I do. Yes, I’ve already seen it four times. Actually, that was within the first week. I may now be in withdrawals after a full week without seeing it. But I digress, this post is supposed to be about Breaking Dawn.

So why haven’t we gotten any official word yet? My guess would be that they’re waiting until the filming dates can be set and trying to secure a release date. We know that Rob has at least two other projects on the table right now, Unbound Captives and Bel Ami, which may not have firm filming dates right now. Kristen and Taylor could very well be in the same situation. I would think that Summit is trying to avoid any scheduling conflicts after the debacle that ensued over the replacing of Rachelle Lefevre in Eclipse.

So now you know what I think, I want to know what you think! What are your theories on Breaking Dawn?

If you’re tuning in to read the interview with my hubby, I promise it is coming. For two people who live in the same house, you wouldn’t think finding the time to sit down and go over a few questions would be so difficult, but it really is. Of course, the four tiny males running around the house could be a large part of that. And the fact that I’ve been to see New Moon three times without him…

What are your plans for New Moon? Will you be heart-broken?

While last week brought a wonderful fan event to the UK, no one can deny that the release of New Moon is the real main event. All kinds of Twilight fans will be holding special celebrations. While of course I’m going to share my plans, I want to hear all about yours too! Are you having a party? Are you going to see it multiple times? Is anyone seeing Twilight before?

There are about twelve of us who will be getting together tonight for dinner before the movie. We’re having a lovely New Moon themed meal at a friend’s house. We are then promptly piling into our vehicles and heading to the theater. We plan to be there somewhere in the neighborhood of 6:30, even though Twilight (yes, I’m seeing Twilight on the big screen again…yay!) won’t begin until 9:00. We are taking with us some games to keep us occupied, including a 100 question New Moon trivia compiled by yours truly. I’m very excited!

I have painted my fingernails and toenails gold to coordinate with the New Moon color scheme. I have my very own mini New Moon Edward necklace, which you can see here. I am beyond ready to forget the rest of the world and spend a few hours in Forks tonight. Of course, I’ll be going again tomorrow, seeing it with three of the girls from tonight as well as my mom. And on Saturday I’m going with the hubs. I hate to make him wait so long to see it, but isn’t he a doll for letting me get in so much Twilight time and act like I don’t have four children and responsibilities for a couple of days?

Speaking of my hubs, I have saved him for last in the “Men who read Twilight series.” I’ll be featuring him next week. I wanted to wait until he’d seen New Moon before I wrote about him. I can’t wait to see what he thinks.

Have you reread New Moon? I’ve been through it again once in the last month and then read bits and pieces over and over again. On the one hand, I’m incredibly excited to see New Moon. But on the other hand, isn’t it masochistic to be eager to have my heart broken? I’m in love with Edward completely, and it’s going to crush me when he leaves. But then again, when he comes back, it destroys Jacob, and I love him too! What’s a girl to do? That’s right, bawl like a baby, but very quietly as not to disturb anyone around me. Super Secret Twilight Blog has a wonderful post on the complex emotions that New Moon brings about.

I also wonder, as I’ve said before, if people who didn’t love Jacob will be able to resist him on the big screen. What is it going to be like to see his face and hear the pain in his voice when Bella leaves? And what about Italy? What is it going to be like to see what Edward is going through as he learns that Bella is dead? I’m telling you. New Moon is going to be heartbreak city!

So, tell me what you think about these questions and what your New Moon plans are. I can’t wait to hear from you!

As New Moon approaches and the countdown goes into overdrive, we talk Twi-Theories

It is nearly impossible to believe that the countdown is now just two weeks until New Moon. It feels like we’ve been saying “Is it November yet?” for well…months. And now, the answer to that is yes! It all just seems surreal. We are so close to watching New Moon. I bought my tickets weeks ago, then went back earlier this week to pick up one for the Twilight showing before the midnight release. I’m very excited. Two weeks from now, I will have seen New Moon and be less than six hours away from seeing it a second time.

Over at the main Eyes of Amber blog, my partner Kerry has started a new feature called Twi-Theories Tuesday. This series moves the focus back to the books. As much as we love the movies and can’t wait for New Moon to hit theaters, without the books we’d never have the story of Edward and Bella. It always comes back to the books.

With New Moon coming up, Kerry is currently working on issues related to the second book. The first week we discussed Jacob, a very obvious component of New Moon. It seems as though everyone I talk to who doesn’t know a whole lot about the saga will ask, in reference to New Moon, “that’s the one with the werewolves right?” But Kerry looks much deeper into the character of Jacob and what role he serves in the books.

The second week was an incredibly interesting discussion of Bella’s hallucinations of Edward. It also talks about Bella’s choosing between Edward and Jacob. It is definitely a must read! I’m still undecided on a few of her discussion points here.

Did you ever wonder how Jasper was able to ignore Bella’s blood in the ballet studio, but went rabid over a little paper cut? Kerry’s post about Jasper’s bloodlust addresses this very question, with incredibly interesting conclusions. It’s a great discussion that gives you plenty to think about.

Most recently, she explored the mystery that is Rosalie. To be such a complex character who takes a very critical course of action, we know very little about her. This post is very enlightening. Had Rosalie made a different choice, would Bella and Edward have ever gotten back together? Yes, she’s that important.

I encourage you to check out these posts and get into the mood for New Moon. The countdown just kicked into overdrive. Single digit days are well within sight!

This guy might be the very rarest form of male Twilight fan

In the last two weeks, you’ve met TheShagDaddy and Shaun, two guys who’ve made their wives very happy by reading Twilight. But not only did they read it, they enjoyed it and became fans themselves. Today I’m introducing you to Dean, the Instigator. He may be the rarest breed of unicorn there is. Why? Just check this out…

Kerry: Oh, we have an interesting point, don’t we? About how I started reading the books?
Dean: How I got you to read them, you mean? I said, “you laugh now, but wait till you read them…I’ll be laughing at you soon…” and I was right
Kerry:
Dean:
Kerry: How long did I make it after the movie before begging for you to go buy the books?
Dean: 1 day

That’s right! Dean read the entire series before his wife did! He borrowed the books from a coworker. He finished Breaking Dawn while Twilight was still in theaters and took his lovely wife Kerry along. I suppose I owe quite a bit to Dean myself, as Kerry is now my blogging partner! Here’s the rest of the interview. Hope you enjoy!

Kerry: Did you read the books or see the movie first?
Dean: I got the better part of it first, meaning I read the books first.

Kerry: What made you decide to read the series?
Dean: It was recommended by a very straight male co-worker.

Kerry: Did any of your other co-workers read it?
Dean: Several of them, or listen to it on audio. The three of us were going to change the face of Twilight fans. All male, married, straight and Twilight fans.

A whole band of unicorns???

Kerry: What is your favorite book and why?
Dean: Breaking Dawn! Bella FINALLY becomes a vampire. My favorite part is the 1st person account of the burning. through the first hunt.

Kerry: I remember you being anxious for that.
Dean: There was a false sense of security after she changes for a while. I really enjoyed the final encounter, to be able to resolve that issue, and capture the drama without resorting to a typical action scene.

I think it’s very interesting that one of Shaun’s complaints is a bonus in Dean’s eyes. I just love hearing what guys think of the series!

Kerry: What appeals to you about the characters?
Dean: The sense of family that’s created, every guy probably wants to be Edward, but we’re really probably more a cross between Jacob and Mike Newton, or Charlie.

Wow…

Kerry: What made you a fan of the series?
Dean: The writing, I kept wanting to read the story, even after it was over. It’s honestly not the “best” writing I’ve ever read, but it’s got a very addictive quality to it. No matter how fantastic the story, the relationships between the characters are very real. And that keeps the story interesting.

Sound familiar to anyone???

Kerry: Who did you want Bella to choose, Jacob or Edward?
Dean: Pfft..Edward.

Love it!

Kerry: Do you have favorite quotes or passages from the books?
Dean: Most of Alice’s lines, The Rock, Paper, Scissors Game. And when she’s sitting on her new Porsche, after Bella returns from the reservation. How do you feel sympathetic for a gorgeous, billionaire, vampire “I never even got to drive it”

Kerry: As a note, I can tell you what was his least favorite. The part in BD where Edward tells Bella “the only parents that don’t sleep and our baby sleeps through the night” I think the shadow of his middle finger is permanently embedded on that page.
Dean: Grrrrr…

I think there are a lot of us parents who felt the exact same way about that passage! (and of course, that’s the only reason babies with Edward seemed interesting to any of us…*wink*)

Kerry: Do you identify with any of the characters?
Dean: Charlie, I always feel like I’m on the verge of seeing the big
picture, but when I finally see the werewolves, I’m not glad
I know.

I love it!

Kerry: Do your male friends know you’ve read the books?

Dean: One of them has even read a few of them!

Kerry: What advice would you give to women who want their husband/boyfriend/significant other to read the series?
Dean: Women are a mystery, fanatic women are even MORE of a mystery. You’ll scare him. Try not to fangirl.

Kerry: Did reading the series have an effect on our relationship?
Dean: Definitely, sex got better.
*Kerry whistles innocently*

Unless I’m seriously mistaken, Kerry is not the only woman who read the series who’s whistling innocently at that remark.

Kerry: Would you or do you recommend the series to other guys?
Dean: Yeah of course.

Kerry: Which was better, the books or the movie?
Dean: Books, no contest.

Kerry: What scene are you looking forward to the most in New Moon?
Dean: The wolfpack taking down Laurent. And Alice.

Kerry: Which scene with Alice?
Dean: Yes.

Kerry: Was there a scene you thought they did particularly well in Twilight the movie?
Dean: The Cullen’s entrance..the whole dramatic entrance. And Alice, was perfect.

Kerry: Any final words?
Dean: Ashley was the perfect Alice, she very much fit my pictures of Alice. Looks, mannerisms, even her voice.
Alice was my favorite because she’s someone you can always be honest with and she won’t judge you. She would keep you accountable, but not be judgmental, even when you
say you’re going to get gas, but actually sneak out to McD’s to break your diet. She’s the Edward for guys.

Alice…the Edward for guys. I can see that on a poster. Another great interview from a Twilight guy. Believe it or not, I’ve enjoyed this series as much as I have the one I did on Sam Bradley, Marcus Foster and Bobby Long. Next week I’ll conclude by introducing you to my absolute favorite unicorn…my own husband!

Let us know in the comments what you think of these guys!

Do real men read Twilight? Eyes of Amber meets a military man to find out

Part 1 of Shaun’s interview left off with Loren asking him what parts of the series he found to be the most surprising.

Loren: You say you found a lot of it to be predictable. So, what part surprised you the most?

Shaun: Yeah I did find a lot of it predictable…you know this from watching movies and detective shows with me…what can I say? Umm the pregnancy was a bit of a shocker but I soon put two and two together on where that was going. Also, when Bella said she loved Jacob where I am sure most of us cursed Stephenie Meyer into the fiery pits of h***.

Loren: Yeah. It’s a good thing we had a brand new house, and my book was hardcover. I almost threw the book at the wall and quit reading when that happened…but I didn’t want to ruin my pretty new walls.

Shaun: Well I’m glad there were no holes in our brand new house to fix when I got home

Loren: Do you have any favorite quotes or passages from the books?

Shaun: “I’m the world’s best predator, aren’t I? Everything about me invites you in - my voice, my face, even my smell. As if I need any of that!…As if you could outrun me…As if you could fight me off.” Twilight, page 264

Loren: Why does that appeal to you so much?

Shaun: It just sounds cool as h***.

Ah, the reasoning of the male mind.

Loren: Do your male friends know you’ve read the books?

Shaun: Friends….LMAO

Loren: Okay. People that you know, and may be forced to talk to from time to time, who are male.

Shaun: Yeah there are a few people who know about it. I really don’t hide the fact that I have read them and like the saga. I don’t hide much so why hide that. What are they going to do make fun of me? Not likely….lol.

FYI - Shaun’s not only a soldier, he’s a bodybuilder. Would you make fun of him?

Loren: If they were smart they’d read it too - it’s gotta be a good way to pick up chicks.

Shaun: Wouldn’t know haven’t tried to pick up a chick in 6 years.

Very good answer Shaun, very good answer.

Loren: Good answer. Who is your favorite actor or actress from the movie?

Shaun: PFach. [Peter Facinelli]

Loren: LOVE PFach. But for the heck of asking, why is he your favorite?

Shaun: Honestly his tweets really get me laughing sometimes, and the videos from his interviews at conventions.

Loren: Here it is…Did reading the series have an effect on our relationship?

Shaun: I do enjoy debating the aspects of the books and the series with you as I know my thought process never makes much sense to you. I think that the series could help a lot of guys though who are in relationships. I mean guys really, you ever want to know what a woman wants, read the book. Edward is what they want. Someone who, no matter what, loves and cares for them, and would do anything for them. This is what I try to do with us, and use it more or less as a guide to what you are looking for.

Darn shame he’s taken ladies, isn’t it?

Loren: What advice would you give to women who want their husband/boyfriend/significant other to read the series?

Shaun: Honestly I think that if you could get them to read a few chapters they will be hooked and be begging for the rest of the books. But getting them to start would be the tricky part. In these types of situations, ladies you need to go to the negotiating table with something. Either trying to read a book series that they like, a 1 for 1 swap, or agree to a sporting event or a night out with the boys if he can read a book and answer specific questions on it. Something like that. While I think they will get a lot out of the books by reading them…entertainment, insight…a little bribery doesn’t hurt either.

Loren: Would you or do you recommend the series to other guys?

Shaun: Yeah if it comes up in conversation…I don’t go around promoting it though.

Loren: What’s your favorite book?

Shaun: Probably Breaking Dawn.

Loren: Why?

Shaun: This is gonna be so sadist. Breaking Dawn because you get the transformation, you get the anticipation of a…like, the greatest battle ever. Anticipation of this huge all-out battle, good vampire vs. bad vampire..just all out brawl. And everything just builds up to that moment. And then you’re left [unsatisfied]

Loren: Which was better, the books or the movie?

Shaun: Books. Unless they add more fight scenes in the movies, then maybe the movies. Was really bummed out at the end of Breaking Dawn.

Loren: What scene are you looking forward to the most in New Moon?

Shaun: Probably the Volturi scene. I am interested to see how that plays out. Unlike some I have not watched all the trailers…I want to be a virgin going into the movie.

Loren: Anything you’d like to add?

Shaun: I had a lot of fun doing this interview. It was fun and I hope that someone somewhere got something out of this. This is not an easy thing for me as most of the time as mentioned above my thought process is not…..accepted?!?…lol by the masses. I often have a strange way of looking at things and this saga was no different. I really appreciate the chance and opportunity to do this interview. Thank you again and good luck to everyone in all of their own adventures. And more fight scenes….

I’m so thankful to Loren and Shaun for sharing their Twilight story with us. These wonderful men are rare and hard to find. Be sure to show Shaun and Loren your appreciation in the comments. If we want more men to read Twilight, we need to show love to those who already have!

Introducing another man who read and loved Twilight, this one's a soldier

Last week I introduced you to a unicorn named TheShagDaddy. This week, I have another Twilight-reading guy for you to meet. His name is Shaun and he was introduced to the books by his lovely wife Loren. They graciously agreed to sit down and do a q & a.

Loren: Did you read the books or see the movie first?

Shaun: I read the books first.

Loren: What made you decide to read the series?

Shaun: Well I was deployed and down range and besides working out, eating and sleeping there is not a lot to do over there. You had told me that you saw this movie and really liked it and started reading the books. After you going on and on about it for two weeks I decided to acquire the saga and check it out for myself.

Loren: You make it sound like I forced you to read the series. When did you really get into it? I think I remember you saying it was “like crack cocaine” or something like that…

Shaun: No, no, no, you did not force me to read them…Let’s just say that you are not known for reading a lot of books, so I really wanted to see what had you to the point of obsession. Yeah I remember the “crack” days of Twilight. The first book, I think I finished in two days, so I did not have to take a break. I think it was somewhere in New Moon where I was working a post where I could not bring the book with me…I just remember all that day watching the clock and waiting to get off work to get back to the story.

I daresay there are more than a few of us who know exactly what he means by Twilight being like crack…

Loren: Who is your favorite character in the series?

Shaun: Who is my fav character? Hmmm this is a tough one. I think I would relate more to Emmett than any other character and he reminds me a lot of myself. Edward would be a close second and tied with Alice. I guess.

Loren: What appeals to you about these characters?

Shaun: Well I like the fact that Emmett is always down for a fight and is the one that they appear to go to when s*** hits the fan. It is always good to have someone like that around. Edward…I like the fact that Edward does everything that he can for Bella. He loves her unconditionally and is somewhat smooth…lol. And Alice…..well Alice would just be fun as h*** to hang out with.

Loren: I think a lot of women agree that the relationship that Bella & Edward have is what draws them to this series. What are your opinions about their relationship?

Shaun: Classic Star-crossed Lovers meet but shouldn’t be together but are determined. Their relationship is funny to me…at times I’m cursing him out for being dumb and an idiot, then the next minute I am cussing her out for being a stupid and just annoying. They were quite a pain in the a** really.

Loren: So, do you think Bella was right to choose Edward (*achem*asiftherewasachoice*cough), or do you think she should have picked Jacob?

Shaun: Do I really have to answer this question?

Loren: Oh yeah.

Shaun: DISCLAIMER!! IF YOU ARE TEAM JACOB DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET MAD! Um yeah she should have chosen Edward. There isn’t and never was any other choice. And all of you Team Jacob people really should just go back and reread the story. If you are team Jacob then you obviously have a thing for immature and overly horned up pubescent males. Just go to your local high school and you’ll be able to find a ton of them. But Edward brought love…true love and he was not hasty in his decision making. He did not jump to conclusions and often times I will say that he was a lot more patient with her than I ever would have been. But they were meant to be from the get go so yes it was the right decision.

I am not saying whether I do or do not agree with him on this one. Just want to point out that the opinions of Shaun are not necessarily the opinions of Eyes of Amber…*

Loren: You said when you were reading that Bella & Edward’s relationship reminded you of our relationship. Why is that?

Shaun: Because you are clumsy.

Loren: Really? Seriously? Don’t be an a**.

Shaun: LMAO…Just playing. Well I do think that their relationship reminded me a lot of ours. I am sure that most couples would think of their own relationship as well. You always feel like you don’t deserve me and you do, and I would do anything for you. But you ever kiss another man and say you love him…I will not be as poised as Edward was, let’s just put it that way.

Loren: I hated her so much during that part, you know I’d never be capable of that. I thought Edward was WAY too understanding too. After reading it more, I think he was so understanding because he truly just wanted her to be happy, even if the choice wasn’t him, and just couldn’t bring himself to hurt her again in any way. I like that she knows he was kinder than she deserved at least….even though I’d have pushed her off the mountain if it were me.

Shaun: LMAO…Well for me both of them (Bella and Jacob) would have never made it out of the woods.

Loren: Speaking of Jacob, there seems to be mixed feelings about him. What are your thoughts about Jacob’s character throughout the series?

Shaun: Immature punk a** kid.

*Please see previous disclaimer

Loren: Nice. Very informative. Moving on…what made you a fan of the series?

Shaun: What really made me a fan of the series…In all honesty, it would probably be the love story like so many others. Which does surprise me because I did find the entire story, except for a few parts in Breaking Dawn, fairly predictable.

Loren: You say you found a lot of it to be predictable. So, what part surprised you the most?

You’ll have to turn in for part 2 to hear the answer to that one. Part 2 will reveal Shaun’s favorite book, his favorite quote and much more, including his advice for women who are trying to get their significant other to read the books. I hope you’re having as much fun hearing from these Twilight guys as I am! Let us know in the comments…
