Yesterday we saw London Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary kick off in style - with an opening ceremony at London’s historic Somerset House hosted by vice-chair of the British Fashion Council and renowned model Erin O’Connor alongside London’s mayor, Boris Johnson.
This season’s London Fashion Week will feature 59 catwalk shows - including a day dedicated to menswear, as well 200 ‘ready to wear’ exhibitors, 17 rising stars from Topshop’s NewGen Project and 28 designers from Monsoon’s eco-friendly ‘Estethica’ range.
Yesterday, Caroline Charles treated her audience to a ‘girls from Ipanema’ inspired collection - with frilled bikinis, tropical prints and polka dots - accompanied to a gentle samba soundtrack. While, newcomer Eun Jeong showcased an entirely white collection, inspired by ‘16th century ballet’ - with soft fabrics in pearlescent shades.
Bringing some serious glamour to the day was the inimitable Bora Aksu, whose models were clad in waist-cinching shapes, rich pinks and golds and some seriously sequinned tights. And rounding off proceedings was Emilio de Morena’s ethereal yet sculpted collection in refreshing cool summer shades - which the designer himself described as ‘fluid femininity’.
We can clearly look forward to an ultra-feminine summer!
