Yesterday, London Fashion Week soldiered on into day two - with Sarah Brown even lending her support to the 25th anniversary by attending the exhibitions at Somerset House alongside fashion royalty, Harold Tillman.
Saturday saw a combination of rising stars and established names take to the catwalk, kicking off with Mark Fast and his signature body-con knitwear dresses in ’season transitional’ shades of beige and grey - with splashes of red and icy blue. Mark caused controversy by using two plus sized models in his show amidst criticism that this year’s London Fashion Week models are the thinnest yet.
He was then followed by Greek-born Mary Katrantzou, who showed a bold collection of graphic prints inspired by the ‘glass blowing process’, as well as vintage perfume bottles - stand out pieces include a zebra print dress complete with fan detail.
Complimenting these up and coming names, was London favourite John Rocha who packed out the BFC tent with his collection of sculpted hour glass dresses, feminine colours and luxurious material. This ethereal summer was far cry from the witty, tongue in cheek pop art t-shirts and dresses of sequin king Ashish, who even managed to make sportswear look glamorous with sequinned Nike ticks.
Margaret Howell’s show was one of the hottest tickets of the day attracting fashion editors, buyers and even celebrities to her show of classic tailoring, breton stripes, trench coats and panama hats - a must have for any British summer.
Closing the day was PPQ - who left us all on a high with their bright colours, loud prints and sixties make up. Most significantly, the design duo Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker used only black models in their show - a first for London Fashion Week and fashion weeks around the world.
Exhausting stuff! Tomorrow, we see the grande dame of fashion Vivienne Westwood, along with Matthew Williamson’s homecoming as this season’s London Fashion Week continues.
