Deemed a disability by some, bad eyesight is a blessing for those with a penchant for gorgeous glasses...

My eyesight is about as good as David Bowie’s on a good day during the Seventies.(Did he have any?) Sometimes I might as well have two glass eyes in my head, or even one. With very short-sighted vision I am only able to see with contact lenses or spectacles. Unfortunate, some might say, but definitely not me. I LOVE glasses! I really prefer them to wearing contact lenses and love how they change my look in an instant. Big ones, round ones, vintage ones, geek-chic ones, I love them all. As fashionistas drool over the latest sky-scraper heels (or kitten heels so I hear this season), I can’t get enough of the four-eyed look.

My recent favourites are a pair of tortoise-shell John Lennon style frames, small and round and delicate on the face. But as the seasons pass by, I turn into a bit of a flake, ditching old pairs for updated glamourous ones. Tom Ford eyewear is always a favourite, particularly that fabulous thick-rimmed black pair, very Seventies chic.

And even better still, an uber-trendy American brand called LA Eyeworks is my I SPy of the week. They have some amazing cat-eye frames that bring out my feline side. For all time classics that will really annoy the bank manager I suggest hitting Cutler & Gross, a hidden little gem tucked away in Knightsbridge. Full of quirky and unusual styles they are always somewhere on my wish list but beware of the price tags!

So visually-challenged beings, how lucky you are! Glasses are the dream ticket for understated cool and cunning, adding another dimension to a familiar face. Embrace it four-eyed friends, go find yourself some sexy spectacles this Spring…

Smitten about studs, Givenchy has designed the beauty of all beauties with their latest in studded bag glory

What is it about studs? They are just brilliant. They work with nearly everything and bring out the best in most lifeless pieces of drab. Studs, those lovely little metal pieces of round glory, are too good to be true. Whether it is on your jacket lapel or your worn out converse boots, they are so easy to fix onto things and immediately add a bit of rock glam.

Those heavenly ‘Coco’ and ‘Diego’ bags by Alexander Wang, whose bottoms are ambushed by thick silver studs, those amazing Converse high-top boots as seen on Aggy, that beautiful Philip Lim shirt covered in the things that Alexa wore to some opening or premier. Whatever or wherever, they turn me into a complete magpie. Walking to work through the illustrated streets of Soho I often catch a glimpse of some studs one way or another. Whether tattooed through the nose of some punky old dude, or scattered across the leather of a young girl’s battered boots, or even so perfectly and symmetrically placed on that Mui Mui jewel of a bag that hangs so perfectly over some Vogue fashionista’s shoulder, studs just go with everything.

But one piece that is driving me completely mad, more than any other stud muffin, is a bag from Givenchy. Plain and black with a simple shape that works well, and just covered with lots of gold pointed studs. It is one of the most fabulous bags I have seen in a long while, although I am sure I am slightly biased by the small gold dots that glimmer from afar. Coming in two different syles, a bucket bag or a satchel, I first saw these beauties in Liberty’s and haven’t stopped thinking about them ever since. Trying to find a way to skimp on food to save on pounds is a frequent method I use to estimate my chances of becoming an owner.

Oh please! Somehow! Anybody! I am totally smitten for this stud bag, but in the meantime I guess I will be going to the bead shop around the corner from work to try and do a DIY job myself on an old leather satchel. Easy to affix and only about £4 for a decent packet of candy, I am hoping to recreate something ever better and like no other Soho stud Soho has ever seen before.

A recent trip to the French capital made me want to share a few of my favourite follies...

A recent trip to Paris brought on an overhaul of chocolat-chaud, baguettes, crowded pavements, vin rouge, mille-feuille, macaroons and of course lots of shopping. As much as I adore London, Paris is such a beautiful and vibrant city filled with lots of exciting boutiques. Having lived there in the past, my recent trip was a real test for my memory to find those wondorous hidden ‘magasins’ again. Sadly for my bank manager, my memory served me well. For those of you heading to the French capital, here a few of my top recommendations:
-La Grande Epicerie, Rue du Bac - head to this insane food hall for the vanilla macaroons and unbelievable Mille-feuille.
-L’Artisan Parfumeur, Boulevard Saint Germain - this wonderful perfume shop hidden in a narrow side street off Boulevard Saint-Germain holds the most wonderful smells know to any Parisien worth their myrhh.
-Come On Eline, Rue des Taillandiers - a stones throw from the Bastille, this is heaven on earth for any vintage loving lady. Don’t let the petite shop entrance fool you, there are two floors beneath that house some of the best fur coats in the city.
-Free’P'Star, Rue de la Verrerie - hidden in the winding streets of the Marais, this vintage boutique is filled to the brim with vintage pieces at very affordable prices. Descend the spiral staircase to find the real hidden jewels, such as breton tops for £5 and fur coats for £40.
-Mariage Freres, Rue Bourg Tibourg - on my favourite street in the Marais, this tea emporium will have you lost for hours. With millions of teas and trinkets such as gold camel teapots, you can never leave empty handed. Pop into the back room for a cup of the stuff too.
-Le Fumoir, Rue de l’Amiral de Coligny - this is the ultimate uber-chic French laid back restaurant with a great Sunday brunch menu. Try and get a table at the back in the library room and order the hot chocolate too, it’s the best in the city. Stroll across to the Louvre opposite afterwards if you’re a culture vulture.
-Colette, Rue Saint-Honoré - this magasin is top of any hip person’s list of places to visit and you will see why when you go there. Full of extraordinary bits and pieces from fab international designers as well as gadgets, music and anything else.
-Deyrolles, Rue du Bac - a weird and wonderful taxidermy shop full of beautiful animals from across the world. More of a wonder experience than a shopping one.
-La Coupole, Boulevard Montparnasse - a traditional French brasserie with amazing fruits des mer, rude waiters and a great atmosphere.
-Georges, Centre Pompidou - this has got to be one of the best spots for both people watching and window gazing, with tremendous views and good food. Best in summer for the tables outside.

Not brave enough for full enough diamante jewels? Try Minx nails this Christmas

I’ve got a real thing about nails at the moment. Nicely, perfectly, primly polished nails are really getting me this Winter. I have become obsessed with keeping my claws in good condition and have a a vast and expanding collection of rouges, plums and pinks. If I don’t have time to carefully paint on my flavour of the month - Essie’s Wicked - I can always rely on a couple of coats of Essie’s Mademmoiselle to see me through the week. I am particularly liking the new nude nails trend, and am definitely not a favour of the matte trend that is always everywhere this winter. Why would you want matte nails that looks old and water-stained when you can choose glossy glazes? Madness.

Aside from all these manicure moments I am desperate to try something new, especially as the festive season is upon us and I am normally rather anti all the Christmas glitz and glitter (Scrooge and I were separated at birth). I have heard and seen the crazy Wah nail girls and can’t bring myself to go fully jewelled just yet. So my latest little fad comes in the shape of Minx Nails, a totally rad mani-pedi method that involves using gold foil instead of paint. It looks like your paws have been painted in the finest 24-carat gold varnish and get this, it is ready for action in just 10 minutes…. so none of that tip-toeing about with wet nails looking like a moron.

Favoured by the likes of high-class hotties such as Mrs Beckham and Beyonce, Minx nails also come in silver and because they are created using foil, they don’t chip like normal nail colours. They last from 1 - 2 weeks, long enough to see me through the Christmas party period, and even have a waterproof seal once applied so won’t stop me from altering my morning bath ritual.

Check out http://www.minxmynails.co.uk/for the full lowdown on how to get the perfect polished puddies.

Behind one of Piccadilly's most fabulous facades lies the meaning of true friendship. Oh and some Anish Kapoor.

So yesterday I went off to the Royal Academy with the BF as I have been desperate to see the Anish Kapoor and above anything feel I have been lacking in London’s magnificent artistic culture recently. I love the beautiful RA building that lies behind those wrought-iron gates on Piccadilly and had recently forgotten just what a special place it is. In the ticket queue I was approached by an efficient RA official and asked whether I would like to become a ‘friend’ of the gallery. Normally I am sceptical of these sort of offers and turn away unwillingly, but the BF immediately enquired and very generously decided to give me a ‘gift friend pass’ for one year. Apart from anything else he can now come free with me to all the exhibitions!

But the ‘friend’ pass, if you are under 25 like me, is a real steal. For just £40 you get free access for a year to all shows in the gallery (queue-jumping too, always puts a smile on my face), as well as preview invitations, the quarterly magazine through your door and use of two secret Friends Rooms in Burlington House. Sounds too good to be true really (I promise I’m not an undercover RA promoter either). Especially for the BF as he is over 25…

Anyway, the Anish Kapoor is to die for. Such a unique exhibition that really altered my mood as I went round. Exceptional juxtaposition of contemporary against such traditional space and architecture. I won’t give away too much but it’s a must-see. Now that I am a ‘friend’ I shall be popping in and out on a regular basis, bringing along my free guests and spreading the word about one of London’s loveliest places.

Funky British jewellery designer Bex Rox rules supreme with her colourful friendship bracelets.

Well we are definitely into Winter now. The weather is grey and rainy (I have been caught without an umbrella enough times already this week) and everyone is rushing around the streets of London clad in thick tights, big black coats, boots and umbrellas. I have to say the biggest change I always notice when the season’s turn is the change in colour of people’s wardrobes - summer always bright and colourful and then the minute the sun has packed his bags, everyone’s outfits unite in a palette of grey, black and more grey.

So I have been making a conscious effort to add some colour to my outfits in a desperate hope to lift my mood and recently this has come in the shape of a beautiful friendship bracelet given to me by my friend Bex. She cleverly cottoned-on to the recent trend of funky friendship bracelets and created a gorgeous uber-luxe one, made from rainbow cord woven through chunky gold chain, finished off with a diamante magnetic clasp. I absolutely adore it and it certainly brightens up even the worst of these dismal dog-days. I think my friends all know what they will be getting from me this Christmas, and they are not just for girls either. I spotted the lovely Henry Holland wearing one a few weeks ago so boyfriend and brothers might even find one in their stockings!

“Tort-ally gor-jus” as Chezza Cole would say! Put orders in soon for all your best buddies - no doubt they are flying off the shelves having been featured in Style magazine. Go Bex Rox…

Chanel launches new Jade nail varnish for Autumn

As fetishes go, I have a real thing about nails. Fingernails. Toenails. You name it. I like them painted all year round in pearly, shiny hues. An immaculate manicure is just to die for. Top of my list of pick-me-ups. Favourites in my ever-growing collection include Essie’s Wicked, a rich plum colour perfect for toes and brilliant in Winter. And my new shade du jour, Chanel’s Enthusiast, which I couldn’t resist purchasing at the airport on my way to Portugal - a gorgeous letterbox red to match my new bikini.

So when I heard that at the Vogue Fashion’s Night Out event last month, Chanel would be giving manicures at their Bond Street store, I was honestly over the moon. My idea of heaven. I imagined Karl to be there himself, carefully helping me decide between Blue Satin and Rouge Noir. And yet the reality was far from my perhaps slightly wishfully thought out fantasy. Nail artists sat patiently while girls queued up to have their nails painted in, wait for it, the new colour of the season fresh off the catwalk, JADE. I was somewhat shocked at this choice, feeling very let down by this Largerfeld’s otherwise impeccable taste. The colour seemed more fitting for the ‘Nancy’s Naughty Nail Parlour’ I sometimes pass in South London, full of inch long acrylic types and God knows what else. Each to their own of course, but Chanel, doing a pale, minty, green colour? Really?

Jade, which launches later this month in Chanel boutiques is said to have a mile long waiting list, one that my name will certainly not be on. I can’t get my head around this atrocious colour and feel it is far from the elegance and beauty of the French brand. I would happily paint my nails with spots or stripes or even in rainbow colours if necessary, but this Jade number is simply not on. Maybe I am missing some big key trend for Autumn, but as long as I have my Rouge Noir to hand, I will be happy. As far as this Jade nail varnish is concerned, I shall always remain green.

Oooh the excitement! H&M announce their next designer collaboration with none other than Paris based designer Sonia Rykiel. Following in the footsteps of Matthew Willimason, Jimmy Choo and Comme Des Garcons (just to name a few) Rykiel will be transporting her unique shapes, styles and stripes onto the mannequins of this high-street fave.

And to add to the joy of this, the first collection from the designer will be in the form of lingerie, set to be in stores this Winter. Following this will be a knitwear collection released next Febraury, just in time for that biting British thaw in Spring. As Rykiel very much stands as the unrivaled ‘queen of knits’, representing a modern and iconic style in fashion, the collection should be to-die-for.

“It is a hallmark of Sonia Rykiel to think of all women because fashion is about a certain spirit more than a question of means,” announced Nathalie Rykiel, who is president and artistic director of the company.

Although the undies will undoubtedly be sexy as hell and the epitome of Parisian chic, the knitwear collection will be the real treat for Rykiel fans. Launching on the 20th of February 2010, the collection will also include accessories and be available for both women and girls (ages 1 - 8). Rykiel will be the first guest to designer to branch out into underwear too. The underwear collection will be available in 1,500 stores worldwide as well as Sonia Rykiel boutiques, and the knitwear will be in 250 stores.

Mark you diaries girls: you’ve got a hot date.
