I have a passion for clothes, I have always loved them since the age of  two, and like a true addict I  am unlikely to stop collecting and hoarding.  For a few weeks each year I attempt to cleanse, but afterwards I am worse than ever.  I love  other stylish women too, the unpredictable, the amusing. I collect friends, but one thing they all have in common is that they are brilliant at everything they touch.  It is the same with the men in my life.

One woman in particular I watch with admiration is Daphne Guinness.  Daphne is of course part of the Guinness Family but she is also much more than this. Ex wife to a Niarchos, she has the air of touch me, touch me not, and that of a Forget Me Not too.  Her hair, beautifully coiffed and yet not, has the look of Cruella Deville with her black hair  showing a large silver streak swept back into a messy chignon.  Of course being brought up with Salvidor Dali as a neighbour in Spain, with Lobsters swimming in his pool, must have stimulated her brain.

I love the way she looks. Last week on a flight from Los Angeles she was wearing 20 inch wedges from what appeared to be the  Nina Ricci Show. I had to have them so off I trotted to Nina Ricci to find dreary platforms nothing like the ones she was wearing although I swear I saw them in Olivier Theyskens last show.  Her inspiration is such that she was asked by Commes de Garcons to make her own scent, which she has done and it named Daphne.  I have this theory  that only when you love someone, you truly love their smell, Daphne agrees with this theory. She hates anything from a perfumerie counter. . As I entered the Dover Street Market  I saw the journalists Christa de Souza and Vassi Chamberlain who said when are you, Amanda, doing your own scent? It is time isn’t it?

I felt behind because of course I had thought about it. Anyway I covered myself with the sweet musky smelling, bottom of the draw of an artistocrat, old rose antique powder  puff smell. Loving it, sniffing it all the way to my lover to ask his opinion. Of course it was turned down he is into being close to nature. I hate nature, I love Daphne.
