My darlings, it is the New Year, and with the start of anything new come all sorts of promises. I will be this, I will be that, I will be good, I will get married - or find a lover at the very least. All my single girl friends complain all the time that the male situation is dire. Why I do not know - there are so many men on the planet - so I thought I would actually check on a few dating sites.
Well, to start with they are a lot of fun. So on this vile winter’s night, you can sit with a laptop on your knee and view all sorts of people - and at the very least find a few new friends. I started in Los Angeles on two or three sites, and can report that it becomes quite addictive - and yes, I could easily fall for one or two people. Chemistry.com has a brilliant way of matching you, and even found me a pianist. Its system is very thorough and I could easily have meaningful relationships with two people on its site. Then there is singlesnet.com, which inundated me with lots of emails, and also has a questionnaire that is easy to fill in; not to mention mysinglefriend.com, the English site, which is even groovier then its American counterparts. I have yet to follow through with anybody, though, as it is quite a thorough process. So far it has taken three weeks of interviews. Beautifulpeople.com is a slow site as everybody has inundated it since Christmas, they apologise, and it is worth waiting for, you get sacked if you have an ounce of flab.
None of the men look terrifying, but they are wary, so don’t frighten them off, and don’t expect anything. And remember, you can easily fall in love with a written text. Certainly there were several who are charming and interesting. So here we go girls, we all may be hooked up by Valentine’s Day if we make the effort . And if not, there’s always Facebook. With no romantic connotations, it’s the best for picking up both new and old acquaintances. Go get it girls.
