Channel: Alice Temperley
In her beautiful Notting Hill studio, Alice Temperley shows us the painstaking embroidery and beadwork done by hand on her dresses. These embellishments and details are her trademark, and her own wedding dress was no different.
Her own dress for wedding to Lars von Bennigsen was just as gorgeous. ‘I’ve been a magpie since I was born, so I’d collected these amazing laces, and appliques them on to a very fine chiffon, and then used original 1920’s sequins, and pearls all across my back. Then I proceeded to get it covered in sheep-shit and raspberries within about three hours!’
You really do get the fairytale treatment as a Temperley bride. The designer tries to get inside the bride’s head, and find out about their fantasy dress in order to design and deliver their ultimate gown. ‘I’d then design embroidery for them, or choose a lace and work on that’.
‘It all depends on what the woman is like’.
